Over the past 15 years, the IBM Center for The Business of Government has sought to connect public management research with practice.

As we have seen from recent emergencies and disasters— including tornados, floods, an influenza pandemic, earthquakes, damage to a foreign nuclear plant, and a large oil spill—there is always an impact on the public’s health and medical care.

NASA continues to face significant operational changes, from retiring the shuttle program, to transitioning to the next-generation space transportation system for exploration beyond low-earth orbit, to the exploration of Mars.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, HHS, sits atop a vast array of data information and expertise that, if leveraged properly and applied innovatively, could transform health and health care delivery within this country.

Given that government influences many facets of our lives, it is critical that we monitor how it performs and operates and use that information to shape and transform how it works.
