Dr. Genie Stowers is Professor of Public Administration at San Francisco State University. Her current research interests are online service delivery by cities and data visualization and mining in the public sector.
She has published in Public Productivity and Management Review, Government Information Quarterly, Public Budgeting and Finance, and Journal of Public Affairs Education, among others and was among the first in public administration to conduct research on e-government activities. She is completing work on a book about urban service delivery via digital government in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Dr. Stowers teaches budgeting, statistics, and information management (data, information, and knowledge management) in the SF State MPA program, and government, budgeting and financial management in the University’s interdisciplinary Ed.D in Educational Leadership.
Dr. Stowers has also been a Visiting Scholar at the Institute for Governmental Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. She was also a Professor in the Department of Political Science and Public Affairs at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she directed the Women’s Studies Program. Dr. Stowers received her undergraduate degree from the University of Florida and her Ph.D. from Florida State University.
