The current White House leaders of these offices have also inherited a capacity first created in the prior Administration that can turn the good ideas of these two offices in to action – the U.S.

There is a lot to like in Veterans Affairs Secretary David Shulkin’s recent decision to combine forces with the Defense Department to establish modernized electronic health records (EHRs) for our nation’s veterans. Hopefully, that path goes beyond being the start of better service for those who have served America so well and so ably through personal sacrifice.

Two departments received special authorities this past year that are intended to improve their abilities to manage. It will be interesting to watch to see how they use these authorities. If these agencies can demonstrate success, then there’s a good chance that Congress might extend these authorities to other agencies.
