The IBM Center for The Business of Government and IBM's A3 Center (IBM's Center for Analytics, AI, and Automation) recently hosted a special event with government leaders to present information about the role of AI.

The content discussed at the event was based on two studies that the Center for the Business of Government produced earlier this year.  Below we summarize the content from this discussion, with links to the audio and video files.

1.  "The Future Has Begun: Using AI to Transform Government," prepared jointly with the Partnership for Public Service. This panel discussion, facilitated by Mallory Bulman, Vice President with the Partnership for Public Service, highlighted how AI technologies assist governments as they seek to transform the ways they work. Panel participants, who shared examples from federal agencies and local governments that have embarked on AI projects, included:

Camron Gorguinpour, Principal, Woden LLC (former Air Force executive)
Alex Holsinger, Criminal Justice Coordinator for Johnson County, KS
Maureen Rajaballey, IT Manager, Miami-Dade County, FL

2.  "Delivering AI in Government: Challenges and Opportunities," by Kevin DeSouza of Arizona State University. This panel discussion was facilitated by Claude Yusti, who leads IBM’s AI Practice for Public Services and worked closely with the Center for the Business of Government.  He discussed some of the lessons learned around planning, developing, and deploying AI. Panelists included:

Jose Arrieta, Associate Deputy Assistant Secretary, Division of Acquisition, Health and Human Services (HHS)
Franz Gayle, Science and Technology (S&T) Advisor, Plans Policies and Operations (PP&O), Headquarters Marine Corps (HQMC)
Joseph Greenblott, Acting Director, Analysis Division, Office of Planning, Analysis and Accountability, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
Mallesh Murugesan, Founder & CEO, Abeyon
Armita Soroosh, Department of Homeland Security, Transportation Security Administration

Professor DeSouza also spoke via video about his report and his presentation is available as well.
